Why do I need tips for my heating when summer is around the corner?
I understand why you may be thinking that, but I am a big believer in preventing a problem before it arises
There's a few things you can do during those summer months to prevent breakdowns of your boiler in winter
Being a heating engineer in York, I specialise in everything from central heating to boilers. You can be sure it will save you money and protect your central heating system.
Check your radiator valves
Turn all your thermostatic radiator valves up full. A pin inside gets stuck when you leave it either low or off. It seems sensible to turn them down, but it is so common for them to get stuck in the off position.
Regularly use your heating
The key here is to get the parts moving in your boiler. It's like a car if it's stood for months on end, and you turned it over repeatedly without moving it. When you come to move it, the brakes would more than likely grind or be stuck
Use your thermostat
Test your thermostat; regularly checking that your thermostat is working will benefit your system. It gets the water circulating around your heating system; if it's just sat in your heating system, it can cause internal corrosion. When you turn your boiler on, after an extended period, all that corrosive material goes straight into the components within your boiler.
Get your boiler serviced
Everyone waits till winter to get their boiler serviced, but prevention is cheaper than the cure. Getting a service done will keep your boiler running at maximum efficiency and catch any problems before they arise
And that's it! Follow these simple steps to set yourself up for a problem-free winter. Being a heating engineer in York, I see it all too often, and most of the time, it could have been prevented.
