Here are 5 telling signs your Boiler may need some TLC. The Boiler Doctor are your local boiler specialists in York.
1. Cold spots on your radiators
This is a telltale sign your heating system is filthy.
Not many people know this, but the same water is used consistently on your heating system. So, if the right inhibitor hasn’t been added it will collect in your radiators.
2. Strange noises
A loud bang when the boiler fires, a whining noise, a whistle are all signs of poor maintenance; if this is the case, it could be a problem with a component within the boiler that’s faulty. It could be trapped air and quickly resolved but it also could be hazardous and costly.
3. Pilot light issues or constantly resetting
Many issues could cause this to happen but remember boilers are designed to go to reset this is for your safety when a problem arises, so if you are constantly resetting your boiler it needs checking for safety and parts may need to be replaced.
4. Leaks
If leaks inside your boiler are left for any length of time (a little tub underneath emptying every other day is not the answer) It could lead to corrosion on the case and once corroded through that’s it, end of the life of the boiler and massive expense due to lack of maintenance.
5. Higher bills
Look out for increased energy consumption; you could have a potential leak inside your boiler. An unexplained increase in energy would cause this; there are lots of factors that can contribute towards the cost of your energy being high, e.g an incorrectly set up system, a dirty system, no lagging around tanks and pipework, the list goes on.
If you are in need of your system looking over for your and your family's safety, I recommend getting in touch with a gas safe registered engineer who specialises in boilers to check it over and don’t worry. I get it. It’s often overlooked. I mean it’s a white box on the wall till it goes wrong
